Puppy Supply List

The following is a list of things I think you should have before picking up your puppy from me.

Most important items-

Premium Puppy Food to get your new puppy off to a great start. We recommend "Eukanuba Petite Bites for puppies" mixed half and half with "ROYAL CANIN BABYDOG 30." Below are pictures of the actual bags. 50/50 of each.

Harness and Leash

While you might be tempted to  pick a leash and harness based on appearance, you should take into consideration the use and the type of training you plan to do with your dog. My toy breeds get enough exercise running around after you. They don't require any outside exercise. If you like to take walks, buy a front pack because you will probably spend most of the walk holding the puppy.  Collars are cute for decorative purposes but please do not plan to use one to take your dog on walks with. I think you should also consider getting a "breakaway" collar, one that has plastic clips and if something should get caught on it it will not allow your puppy to get hung up. My puppies are all toy breeds and have super tiny trachea's and you can hurt/damage a dogs throat with a collar. Get one, they are cuter than the harness but use the harness anytime you plan on using a leash. Please. Hint.. Look at the pet stores in the ferret section.

Food and Water dishes

Every puppy supply list should include quality dishes for food and water. There’s a wide variety of materials and styles to choose from. You should pick bowls that are dishwasher safe and won't hurt your puppy should they ever break. I like to use stainless steel with my dogs.

Chew Toy ideas

Puppies like to mouth and chew on things, so have a few chew-approved items around. You don’t want to come home to teeth marks on your chair legs or the shredded remains of your new Jimmy Choo shoes. I like nylabones and the rope chews. The rope chews when being chewed on actually act like dental floss with your dog. Since toy breeds are famous for having teeth issues it is a great way to get your dog to do some teething/flossing of his own teeth. Good chew toys is critical to enjoying your dog to the fullest. If your dog starts to chew somewhere that you don't want it to there is a product called "Bitter Apples" You need a high-quality, safe chew toys to help with the teething.

Dog Crate-Soft or hard crate?

Crate training is the easiest way to foster good house training habits. A crate can also serve as a safe, comfortable place to keep your puppy while you’re away from home or when you travel with him. Most of my dogs are small so the 100 series crates are sufficient. You need to decide if you want to buy one crate for home and one for traveling. Are you planning on crate training? You planning to sleep with the dog and not want to confine your new baby? Ask me about crates if you are undecided. Soft crates are a great way to teach your dog to stay inside. This way can take them into stores and such.

Grooming Essentials

These are puppy products that are often overlooked, but they’re a necessity for nearly all dogs.   A good comb (greyhound) and a nice brush should be sufficient for brushing. I like to buy the puppy/dog wipes so that when my dogs need a freshening up between baths I can just pull out a nice wipe and keep my dog clean. They are easy to use, not real expensive and better than bathing too frequently. Even if your puppy will be professionally groomed, you should buy a brush and nail clippers. Regular grooming sessions not only keep your dog’s coat healthy, they help build his trust in you as pack leader. The only dogs I breed that need grooming are the Yorkies, Morkies and Maltese. They need regular grooming. They will need to go to the groomers for regular cuts unless you like super long hair, have nothing better to do than keep it brushed and like the work. Get some great organic shampoo or go easy and get Johnson's no tears shampoo. Also don't forget a toothbrush and toothpast.

I love these dogs best when the go to the groomers and get what she calls the 'puppy cut'. It is longer around the face but shorter so I don't need to brush them so much. Look around and get a good feel for any groomer you are going to leave your dog with. Not all groomers like your dog. Prepare your dog by grooming it daily so when it does need to go to the groomers it is not scared stiff. If you don't have the time to care for a dog that has hair look at my Chihuahua's. Smooth and long coats don't require any brushing.

Name Tag/Micro-Chip

No puppy or dog should be without an id tag. Whether you opt for a simple name tag, a tattoo, or an implanted microchip, make sure your puppy can be traced back to you if he’s ever lost. People who want to steal your dog will just take the name tag off. The best way to protect your dog is the micro-chip. I recommend the microchip to you
